Criterion G requires that PTSD symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Although it is rare, some individuals may experience a great deal of subjective discomfort and suffering due to their PTSD symptoms, without substantial impairment in their day-to-day functioning. Other individuals show clear impairment in one or more spheres of functioning, such as relationships, work efficiency, or ability to engage in daily tasks (e.g., cleaning the house, doing laundry).
