Exam Tables

high/low exam table

Exam tables need to be accessible for wheelchair transfer, have powered height adjustability for examination at working height, and raise the upper body with power to avoid injury. Capacity and width should be considered for patients of size. Accessories such as side rails or handles may vary by type of examination and patient population.

Morgue Carts

morgue cart

Morgue carts need to have stretcher-type drive and controls if they are used for transport. Capacity and width should be considered for patients of size.

Imaging Surfaces

X-Ray table with portable lift OR CT or Angio table with ceiling lift

Imaging surfaces should allow for wheelchair transfer, or alternate means of access such as lifts will be necessary. Some table designs do not accommodate floor-based lifts, so ceiling-mounted lifts or friction reducing devices may be necessary in these locations. Flat tables do not help patients sit up, so tools such as hand ladders to help patients rise from a supine position may be necessary.

Procedure Table / Surgical Table

Cysto room with ceiling lift or dental surgery room.

Patient procedure tables and surgical tables may have specific functions, but design of the space needs to include ways to avoid manual transfer and positioning and avoid harm to staff and patients.

Stretchers / Stretcher Chairs

stretcher and stretcher chair in Day Surgery.

Stretchers and stretcher chairs are used for many purposes, and design may need to include wheelchair accessibility, positioning with power assistance, pressure ulcer prevention, power raising/lowering, and/or power drive (especially for slopes or long distances). Capacity, power operation, and width should be considered for patients of size. Other accessories such as pump racks, exit alarms, or scales may vary by use.

PT / OT Treatment Tables
