In order to choose the appropriate SPHM technology for each patient care area, the SPHM Facility Coordinator (FC) will work with patient care staff and supervisors in the department to identify the high-risk tasks, the population served, and the technology that will most effectively help the staff to handle and mobilize the patients safely.

New construction and renovation efforts need to plan in appropriate SPHM technology. It is important to include the SPHM Facility Coordinator, supervisors, and direct care staff such as Unit Peer Leaders during the planning and design phases, and continue to include them through construction.
